The company was established in 1990 in the city of Sanok located in the south-eastern part of Poland. This company, which was then called "Mechanical and Woodworking Workshop", was a business started by Mr. Józef Leśniak, MSc Engineer, a head of the design engineering office at a local bus and coach manufacturing company. After four years of operation the company name was changed to Automet. With a staff of ten-odd employees in the beginning, Automet would manufacture metal parts, automotive components and processed plastic materials.
A lot has changed since those days. The history of Automet is filled with great many events and successes which stem from changes in the company and product development strategies.
The years 1998 and 1999 were a stage hard work on developing a wider range of products and services. At the same time the company set up an advanced design engineering office and hired qualified specialists in computer programming and design engineering. The company launched a range of bus and coach seats and design services.
Works on extension of production halls were carried out to adapt the manufacturing floor to production of bus and coach conversions and interior trim parts. In 2001, Automet entered the van conversion market with products based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, the Mercedes-Benz Vario, the Iveco Daily, and the VW LT.
The year 2002 was a breakthrough milestone when Automet launched the production of guards, shields and shrouds for electrical appliances of General Electric Medical France. The following years saw an expansion to foreign markets; Automet concluded commercial contracts with Faurecia (France) and Dynapac Atlas Copco (Sweden / Germany).
Those were also the years of great success in the van manufacturing range. Proprietary designed prototypes have been appearing since 2004: Automet Feniks (2004), Automet Apollo (2004), and Automet Jupiter (2011). In 2008, Automet was granted full official type certification for its vehicles.
Already in 2001 Automet implemented the ISO 9001:2000 standards to improve the quality of its range. The certification was granted by TÜV CERT (TÜV Thüringen e.V) and it is now handled by the Polish Centre for Testing and Certification (Polskie Centrum Badań i Certyfikacji S.A.). 5S has become the foundation of daily operations, while all activities have been focused on customer satisfaction.
The Automet brand, which is now recognised by quality and innovation, continues the bold vision of the company founder. Automet is currently one of the largest bus and coach conversion manufacturers in Poland with operations on numerous foreign markets, including the entire Eastern Europe, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, France, Sweden, Germany and the Middle East.
The company has been highly flexible to keep its market leadership. The existing and new products and services from Automet will continue to be developed and adapted to customer needs. What will remain the company's priority is delivery of quality products, as it has been for over 20 years.
